Denzel Washington will be producing the Netflix original film, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”, starring Viola Davis.
If you are a fan of Denzel Washington or Viola Davis, then you are in luck. The two acclaimed actors will be working together on a new Netflix project, “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom”. According to Screenrant, the film is an adaptation of play released in 1984. It will follow Ma Rainey, one of the first professional African American blues musicians. The story will take place in Chicago, 1927. It will explore the exploitation of black musicians during that era, as well as topics such as race, religion, and gender.
Denzel Washington will be the producer of the film. Viola Davis is set to play the main protagonist of the film, Ma Rainey. She will be joined by Chadwick Boseman(Black Panther), Gylnn Turman(How to Get Away with Murder), and Michael Potts(True Detective). Broadway legend George C.Wolf is set to direct the “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom.” The movie will begin filming next month in Pittsburg. There is not any news yet on when the film will be released on Netflix.
