Character of Colour: Jake Long | American Dragon: Jake Long

Today’s character of colour of the day is Jake Long! The green-haired, skater boy with the serpentine style.

If you watched Disney as a kid in between 05-07, you should know who he is. The first dragon to watch over the magical creatures in America, taught by his granddad and their 600-year-old talking dog, Fu dog.

The show was a fantastic piece of representation for Asian Americans and had many Asian American voice actors in lead roles. Dante Basco was the voice of Jake Long, Keone Young voices Luong Lao Shi aka Grandpa, Lauren Tom as Susan Long, and Sandra Oh as Sun Park

The role of Trixie, who was Jake’s friend and a young Black woman, was voiced by a Black woman, Kali Bianca Troy.
