Malcolm D. Lee’s Pitch “The Spoils” Finds Home at Loinsgate

Lionsgate has secured an action-comedy film titled “The Spoils” that was pitched by director-producer, Malcolm D. Lee, Deadline reports. The film’s production will take place through Lee’s own company, Blackmaled Productions.

The plot is centralized around a group of immigrants who conduct a heist to recover their countries’ stolen artifacts from a London museum and rightfully return the prized possessions to their homelands. Lee will be the director as Roshan Sethi and Hayley Schore will be screenplay writers.

Lee has extreme experience from directing films like “Girl’s Trip,” “Roll Bounce,” and “Undercover Brother,” as well as “The Best Man” and its sequel, “The Best Man Holiday.” Both Sethi and Schore have written for FOX’s “The Resident” and TBS’s “Code Box.”

Aaron Wilson-Watson, an alumnus from the College of New Jersey, had some words about the developing film. Wilson-Watson, who has a bachelor’s degree in Communication Studies with a Radio, Television and Film specialization said:

“We live in an amazing time when it comes to telling black narratives. Lee did a wonderful job with Girl’s Trip and has a strong comedic filmography, so I hope this next project has the success and the laughs of his most recent projects. Film, like no other art form, can produce empathy and now more than ever, we need stories about people of color and immigrants.”

And some people couldn’t hide their excitement towards the film, as they addressed the arising issues around museums and the results of imperialism.

Adam Haiken will oversee the project on from Blackmaled Productions while James Myers and Aaron Edmonds will oversee for Lionsgate.

“The Spoils” does not currently have a release year or date.

Lastly, Lee is producing an adaptation of Terry McMillan’s novel “I Almost Forgot About You” through his company. And recently, he became the current director of “Space Jam 2”.
